    Just out of curiosity, do these leeches carry any types of disease? What is the frequency of that? Also, are the bites prone to infection afterward (as with flea bites, by scratching with dirty nails, etc)? I've never been in a place where there were leeches, but as a fly fisher, I know they are almost ubiquitous. But I've only just become aware that there are leeches that go on land. Yikes! Thanks for making this informative video. Best wishes.

    I live in Australia and in the Northern rain forests I've encountered some crazy leech infested areas. The most I had to remove was 135 after a 30 minute walk. About 20 minutes into the hike in a shady rain forest I noticed the ground appeared to be moving. Upon closer inspection there were thousands of leeches covering every inch of the forest floor. I had leech socks and long pants/shirt but they were already climbing up with far too many to remove. They moved up my legs by the hundreds. They also began dropping from trees onto my neck and down my shirt. Had no choice but to sprint back to the car park where I stripped down and doused myself in salt. Since they were all through my clothes I placed them in a bucket and filled it with sea water. I wondered after if you can actually die from blood loss due to leeches? I mean someone lost in that forest could acquire many thousands of bites.

    The most important thing is to tuck you pants into your socks.Football stockings are way better than any socks. How to treat-Put a thick price of cloth on the wound,and tightly tie a cloth around..or a bandage.To exert pressure on the wound.

    Hi! How was weather in January? I keep reading its very wet and that might make trails muddy, slippery and not practicable. But your video seems to show otherwise. Also how cold is it at the top? Thanks

    • @toppeaktravelsdnbhd8669
      @toppeaktravelsdnbhd8669 5 лет назад

      Hi George! Due to it's height, Mount Kinabalu has its own climate patterns. This climate pattern tends to generate quite a bit of rain around the mountain. It's hard to predict exactly what the weather will be like in January, but the two things we always tell our guests to prepare for is rain and cold. No matter what time of year you go, it's always chilly at the summit. As far as navigating trails to reach the top of the mountain, you are required to be accompanied by a guide who is knowledgeable and familiar with any type of conditions you may encounter. Cheers!
